Okay I’ve been needing to write this preview for a days now but keep getting side tracked by having to take care of other things, but lets delve into the world of DreadOut
First thing you will notice upon Linda waking up is this game has a very dark, spooky atmosphere. The first room would not be out of place in any horror movie set in Asia and I half expected it to belong to some serial killer.. All it contained simple few simple pieces of furniture a mattress owe and what appeared to be blood on the floor.
I remained in this room longer than I probably should have, expecting something to happen, a ghost to pop out of the wall, or some dark secret to be lurking somewhere. When I was sufficiently satisfied nothing was going to happen and their was no little detail for me to discover I left the room to encounter another human being (owe how these things tend to turn out bad) and then the darkness comes.
Yes the game maintains a wonderfully dark environment throughout each of its set pieces and when a ghost does appear the darkness serves as a perfect backdrop for thrills.
Sadly not long into my play through of the demo I encountered a bug, not not a glitch but a literal giant bug. Smirking I thought, owe I just have to trap this little pest in a room and be one my way. Typically how these things work, so I tried and found out the controls aren’t smooth as I would have liked when I attempted to close the door from the outside only to do so from the inside of the building. The controls okay for a demo build though. When I had finally succeed the bug just went through the way to catch up with me.
Now what is the problem with this bug you maybe wondering? It flies around you and Linda stops what she is doing to swat at it. A lot. Had a ghost attack me in a room, what would have been a great moment was ruined by the stupid bug being swatted at. Wake up find the person that got me into that situation and again as I’m trying to use the games dialog options I’m swatting at the stupid bug.
Leave the Apartment complex and the bug follows suit, always having to swat at it until I frankly couldn’t stand it anymore and quit. Yes the game has a lot of potential, but I don’t know why the developers would put in a feature such as the bug that takes away from the central focus of the game. It was gaming ruining in my opinion.
There is hope, I tweeted the devs and they don’t know if they will keep the bug in so hopefully they’re remove it. I mean seriously swat and stomp. At least that’s what I was yelling at my computer.
I’ll definitely have to check the next build of this game out and see how it progresses.
